Our agents comment on Personal Insurance

On our Facebook page we answer some questions that come up around the kitchen table. Below they are listed in no particular order with the answers given by our staff.  These are just a few examples of the questions our team is qualified and ready to answer for you.

My child has a summer lawn mowing business, does he need insurance for that?

A: No, as a minor child working a part time summer job and a member of your household, the homeowner liability insurance covers the child while mowing lawns for others. RJ

Burglars look for fast, quiet entry and exit from your home. Reduce Your Risk of invasion  Trim bushes and trees, close and lock windows and doors, install quality locks on doors – 2 dead bolts is a good idea, invest in an alarm system and place alert signs and stickers around your home, and finally get to know your neighbors.

Does purchasing an Alarm System get you a discount on your home/renters insurance
policy? Do other safety items qualify for a discount?

A: Yes, an alarm system is good for both fire and burglary and does discount the cost of your annual insurance premium. Having dead bolts, fire extinguishers, and hard wired smoke detectors will give you discounts as well. RJ

Classic car coverage is very inexpensive. Often these special cars are used temporarily during the summer and then garaged for the winter. If you plan to purchase coverage for this type of car, then we recommend Classic Car Insurance.

What is Umbrella insurance for?

A: Umbrella insurance refers to a liability policy that protects the assets and future income of the policyholder above and beyond the standard limits set on their primary policies, and is sold in increments of $1-Million. The term “umbrella” is used because it covers liability claims from all policies underneath it, such… as auto and homeowners insurance policies.
